Dryer problems we repair
Most dryer trouble is heat, airflow, the drum drive or the controls. A lint-packed vent slows every load, overheats the dryer and is a fire hazard, so we check it at every diagnosis.
- Runs but no heat
Electric: thermal fuse, heating element or half of the double breaker tripped. Gas: igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coils.
- Takes too long to dry
Usually weak airflow: a lint-packed vent, crushed duct or stuck outside flap. Sometimes a thermostat or moisture sensor.
- Won't start
After ruling out power: door switch, start switch, thermal fuse, belt switch, control board.
- Won't tumble
Motor hums, drum stays still: a broken belt, seized idler pulley or worn drum rollers.
- Squealing
A squeal that follows the drum points to rollers, the idler pulley or a motor bearing.
- Thumping or scraping
Flat spots on the rollers, worn drum glides or felt seals, or a coin in the drum seam.
- Shuts off early
Usually overheating and protecting itself. We check airflow, the cycling thermostat and the motor.
- Too hot or a burning smell
Stop using it. The usual causes are lint on the element, a failed thermostat or a blocked vent, and each one is a fire risk.
- Never shuts off
Sensor-dry cycles only end when the moisture bars read dry. A film on the sensor, poor airflow or a thermostat that never cycles keeps it running.
- Error codes or a dead panel
We read the code, then test the part it points to instead of guessing.
Gas and electric dryers
Electric dryers need both legs of a 240-volt circuit. If one leg trips, the drum turns but the element never warms. Gas dryers heat with an igniter, a flame sensor and gas valve coils. Coils that work cold and fail warm are a classic pattern: the first load dries, the second does not. We repair both and check the gas connection and flame before we leave.
Stacked pairs and laundry centers are fine; tell us on the schedule form, since we usually pull the unit out to reach the vent. We also service commercial dryers; tell us the make and whether it is coin- or card-operated.

Why does my dryer take several cycles to dry a load?
Airflow, almost always: the lint screen, the duct behind the dryer or the outside flap. Otherwise a weak element, thermostat or moisture sensor. Long dry times are also an early fire-hazard warning.
Do you clean dryer vents?
Vent cleaning is not a service we offer, but a restricted vent is one of the first things we check on any dryer visit. We tell you where the restriction is and what should happen next.
Do you repair gas dryers?
Yes, gas and electric. If you smell gas, leave the house, call your gas utility from outside, and schedule the repair once they have cleared the area.
Can you work on a stacked dryer in a closet?
Yes. Mention it on the schedule form and clear a path in front, since we usually pull the unit out to reach the back and the vent.
Is an older dryer worth repairing?
Often, yes. Belts, rollers, elements, fuses and igniters are straightforward repairs. If a repair does not make sense for the dryer's age, we say so.
