A control board, a failed sensor or a power problem. The code narrows it down.
What we check first
The first ten minutes tell a refrigerator technician a lot. We listen for the compressor, feel the condenser for heat, and read the frost pattern on the evaporator coil, which points at a defrost, airflow or refrigerant problem. Then we test the fans, damper, thermistors and defrost circuit.

Sealed system and compressor work
The sealed system is the closed refrigerant loop: compressor, condenser, evaporator, filter drier and the tubing between them. When it fails, the fridge runs but never gets cold. Not every repair company takes this on. We do.
Diagnosis means checking compressor amperage and temperatures across the loop to tell a weak compressor from a restriction or a leak. The repair may mean a new compressor or filter drier, brazing a leak, and recovering and recharging the refrigerant.
It is a bigger job, so we tell you honestly whether it makes sense for the age and condition of your unit.

Keep the doors closed and move perishables to a cooler if it will be more than a few hours. Leave it plugged in unless it trips the breaker or smells like burning.
